First Steps

I realise that I might have a “problem”, starting my quest to find my personal style when I’m pregnant and clothes are limited. However, there are ups as well.

I have inherited clothes from my sister, some of them she got from others. It’s actually quite fun to experiment with clothes that I have not picked out myself to see if there’s something I like or something I should stay away from. For example, my pant selection is three jeans (one pair too big at the moment) and one pair of black pants (also too big). I don’t care too much for jeans or black, but right now it’s my everyday staple. So now I know that black and loose-fitting jeans aren’t really my cup of tea, tight-fitting jeans in a dark wash are OK. Well, really I knew that before, but now I have “proof”.

Also, being pregnant means that I won’t buy a whole lot of unnessecary clothes, which I’ve had a habit of doing before. Buying clothes without knowing how they fit in, is not good. Therefore, at the moment, I will only buy clothes if I have a need for them, being pregnant I do need some more clothes that fit, but since most maternity wear is more expensive than regular wear I really think about my purchases.

So besides the things mentioned above, I’m also working on some of the tips from Retrochick. If I’m browsing the web I try to find inspiration pictures for a lookbook and I’m taking pictures of my daily outfits. Even if my daily outfits are of clothing someone else bought (and some of my own) I can still find inspiration in those.

What I’m expecting is that when I’m ready to wear “normal” clothes and get back to sewing and shopping, I will have a distinct idea of what I want. I’m taking this pregnancy as a “style break”, a chance to look at myself from the outside, a chance to start over. Let’s see how I’ll do.

Even though I’m restrictive about shopping, I can’t avoid all shopping. We’ve been having snow here forever (basically since Christmas – not common) and I didn’t have any winter boots. So last week I bought those, but since it was after Christmas the boot were on sale. And I needed them, my feet are so much warmer now!

Comfy, warm…that's what I ask

I walk a lot, and I get problems with my calves if I wear heels so I normally wear flats. That’, my friends, is a challenge in itself.
